Singers, entertainers. Though they inspired The Sound of Music, one of the most popular musical films ever made, the story of the real von Trapp family is quite different from the silver screen version. Georg von Trapp became a widow after his wife, Agathe Whitehead, died, leaving him seven young children. The wealthy Austrian aristocrat and retired sea captain later married the family's governess, Maria Agusta Kutschera, who fiercely and single-handedly launched the family into a career in entertainment.
Well...that's waaaay more interesting than our family story! Our family consists of Eldon - the dad, Shan - the mom, Jord - the teenage son, Erin - the teenage daughter, Lyndsay - the other another teenage daughter and Rachel - the spoiled poodle.
Like the von Trapp's there is some musical talent in the family (Erin plays the trumpet, Lyndsay the baritone and Jord listens to 'music' very, very loud!).
Unlike the von Trapp's, I am still alive, Eldon has never slept with the governess and more than a few members of our family are completely tone deaf - so don't be asking for any renditions of 'Edelweiss' or you'll be sorry! |
